Wea's New Friends and a TV Camera

 Wea has some new girlfriends!

My parents now have half ownership of Lilly. They bought her at the Harrisburg Show this past weekend. She will hang out here for a while until she goes for a breeding in RI.

The other two little girls are Hoopla and Bennie. They are here to hang out for a little while. They are owned by Emelise Farm. I love Bennie. She's so cute!!! She's the little white one. Hoopla is super cool too. Looks like a little Spicy!

 Now for the TV cameras....

Cablevision wanted to do a show on the alpaca farms in Wall.

Today was our big day. They stopped by, put a mic on my mom and started filming!

 The alpacas were happy to smile for the camera. Star was so very curious about what was going on.

 The herd came over and checked out the action.

 My favorite girl, Geneva, looking pretty.

 

The show will be on next week and will run a few times a day for two weeks.

If there is a clip of it, we will post it on the website.

And in other news,

I can't seem to publish this post without acknowledging a sad event that happened here over the weekend. One of our first time moms delivered a premature stillborn baby. The shock of it all was so awful. We know that all farms encounter this sooner than later. But as my mom said, we wished it was later rather than sooner. The baby was beautiful. Looked just like her mommy. We are saddened by this event but we take comfort in knowing that it was nature's way of taking care of things. We always try to look at the good side of situations and take some good out of the bad. The good news is that the mom is doing well physically. The baby will be donated to the vet that runs the birthing clinics. This will allow people to learn first hand what to do when a birthing mom needs assistance. We wish so much that this baby was running around and playing in our field. But for now, we can just hope and pray that our babies-to-be are safe and will join us in due time.

Friday's Fences

My sister, Andee, is a wonderful photographer. She has a blog and over the past few months has found fun little things to be a part of. I noticed on her blog this morning, that she was joining in with a

Wednesday Yarn Along

There's a baby boy on the way :) 

Lizzie and Nick have officially announced that they are expecting their first little baby.

HE is due to arrive in September.

That's right....ANOTHER boy in this family! That's a grand total of 6 grandsons for my parents.

Lots of little farm hands I say. I am so excited to meet this little baby...so it's time to knit!

I have this nice chunky green yarn that has been sitting in my basket. I haven't had a plan for it, so I think it needs to go to this new baby.

I'm still reading Sing You Home by Jodi Picoult. My mom insists that it gets better and to keep reading. Right now, it is sooooooo sad! But I will keep going because she recommended it to me. I am usually the one that recommends the books, so it's nice to be on the other side.

It's ALMOST HERE!!!!

Only 2 weeks away. Can you hear my heart beating faster?

I've been busy looking at patterns for the perfect yarn purchase at the festival.

I think I've found it.

Alpaca Pockets for Africa

Lori is a blogger that is headed to Africa. She is going to be visiting African villages to visit with the children. You can read her story on her blog. If you are new to Lori, get over there right now! She is wonderful. Love everything about her.

For her trip, she has reached out to others to knit little pockets that the children can have. She will pass them out during her visit next month. I have knitted up three pockets out of alpaca yarn. Inside contain a small felt ball handmade by my older boys. We thought this would be a fun little thing to play with.

My sister, Andee, has also knitted up a few and will be mailing them out tomorrow to Lori in California.

I've been in a bit of a knitter's rut lately. It was so much fun to sit down yesterday and make something that I know will go to little children all the way in Africa. I hope they enjoy them!

I am someone that needs two good strong cups of coffee in the morning before I can function. During said coffee time, I surf my favorite blogs. I check out their crafty ideas, what books they are reading, what they are knitting, read their funny stories and get some inspiration for my day.

A year ago, I set up this little blog to go along with our new farm website. I didn't know if anyone would read what I had to say, or enjoy the pictures that I took, but I knew that I enjoyed doing it and maybe someone else would too.

Well, guess what?

Someone likes my blog. And I like her's too.

So in an "awe shucks" moment, I thank Ann in the UP for nominating me for the Liebster Blog Award.

Wednesday Yarn Along

Happy Wednesday to all the knitters and farmers out there.

Spring has arrived here at the Jersey Shore. Flowers are everywhere, leaves are covering the tree branches and all this "spring" has left me with an undesired clogged head, sore throat and chills. Joy.

Oh well, all comes with the territory. Instead of focusing on the fact that I feel lousy, I'll try my best to enjoy the beauty outside. sigh....

Now onto the Yarn Along.....

I've started working on a blanket that has been sitting in my project bag for some time. It's a nice easy knit and mindless to work on. Seems like that's the only kind of knitting I can do now that Chase is crawling everywhere. I also started reading Sing Me Home by Jodi Picoult. My mom just read it and highly recommended it. So I'm excited to read it. I've only finished a few pages so far, but I'm sure as soon as I have a little time I'll be reading right through it.

We will be in the Coop today (Wednesday April 18th) from 10-4.

In other news, my baby is 9 months old today. How did that happen?

9 months outside goes sooooooo much quicker than 9 months inside, doesn't it?

Spring Has Sprung

 No, we do not have a new baby alpaca at the farm. These were taken last spring when our first little girl, Wea, was born. You can read all about her big debut here.

The reason that I'm posting these is because "Baby Waiting Time" is approaching. That means that my mom will not be leaving the house for anything unless it's an emergency (not really, but it feels that way!)  This past weekend, Liz, Dee and Audrey from our neighboring farm took a trip up to Martha's Vineyard to attend an alpaca birthing clinic. Liz and my mom took this class last year and it really came in handy when the neighbor's cria needed help last summer and my mom was able to jump in and get that baby out safely. 

Some people ask why they would need this class. Don't you just call the vet? Well, the thing with alpacas is that your vet may be hours away. They tend to travel far and wide to treat their patients. Our vet, (who is awesome by the way) is also the vet for many exotic animals across the state. Therefor, if he is in a shark tank giving a shark an ultrasound (yes, this happened) when you need him, you better have the knowledge to birth that alpaca baby if need be.

So now that they have more experience, I'm sure the crias will be in very good hands when they decide to make their debut this spring.

Really, is there anything sweeter?

Wednesday Yarn Along and Some Random things

Wow. This week flew. Not much knitting going on. I wish it was!!! I wish that a magical fairy would appear at my house and do the cleaning, cooking, errand running, kid shuttling, baby watching for me. But that darn fairy doesn't show up. Oh well.....

So here goes for this week:

For knitting and reading,

I just started Catching Fire. I devoured The Hunger Games. Crazy, strange, oddly captivating. I heard that this book is the same way and even better.

I started knitting my Clapotis again. I bought the yarn last May, and i had grand plans for this. But it's been in a bag for months. Ok...almost a year. So I got it back out and hopefully I can get it done. It's a beautiful blend of colors and the end result will be a perfect spring/early summer wrap.

And because I don't have ANYTHING else to do with my time...

I have been bitten by my old friend the quilting bug. Yup...had to do it. I do miss my first love.

 I started cutting some blocks. It will be a child size quilt. I thought it would be perfect for picnics with the boys. Wish me luck :)

  

 I work from home as a freelance graphic designer. I have had the pleasure of two wonderful clients in the past few weeks. I always enjoy my work, but it's extra enjoyable when you come across great people that get excited about things. This is also a reason that my poor knitting has been neglected. Oh well...have to pay the bills right?

Somehow Mr. Garrett avoids my camera lense. I'll have to get some of him this week. He's growing like a weed!!!

 Spring baseball has brought us some new freckles.

 Mr. Curious and his new rocking chair...and YES, he has curly hair.
