Winter Is Here Yarn Along

Winter has arrived here at the Jersey Shore. The temps have dropped and the snow flurries began.
It's perfect knitting weather if you ask me!

Here's what I have been knitting along with some snowy alpaca pictures.

Over Christmas break, I casted on for the Barn Sweater.
I started Christmas Day and finished it in 10 days. It was a pleasure to knit and so comfy to wear. I haven't blocked it yet because i don't want to take it off long enough for it to dry.
Yarn: Brooklyn Tweed Shelter: Fossil color
Buttons from this site: Vintage Buttons from this etsy shop

I am teaching a fingerless glove lesson this winter, so I'm casting on a new pair to use as example.
Knitted with Jill Draper Makes Stuff Cormo wool, color: Still Life with Plums

Bundled up and went outside to play with the pacas.

 Smoke and Bing

Is this just the cutest little girl or what??!!! Peanut Butter Dickens looks like a happy girl in the snow.

Lily and Chase

The Brat Pack

And back inside for more knitting and some podcast listening. Right now, listening to Woolful.
For my reading, I just finished Half Broke Horses.
I just started reading Everything I Never Told You.

Happy Knitting and Alpaca Farming!

She's So Bootiful

It can be done!!!!
After 7 grandsons, 7 baby boy alpacas in a row, a baby girl was born today on the farm.
And she is a light rose grey. Just what we prayed for!!!!!

Welcome to the world,
Arrow Acres Bootiful!

Wea is her mom and CCNF Smoke Ring is her dad.
Well done you two. Well done!

Chase named her Bootiful. He says "beautiful" all the time, but it comes out "bootiful".
He says it so sweetly and caring and it just fit this "bootiful" little girl. So Bootiful it is. Boo for short.

Big yawn!

I can't get enough of her. She's perfect.

Today is Wednesday

Today is Wednesday :)

Joining up with the weekly yarn along to share what I'm knitting and reading this week.
And of course I throw in a few extra....

Most of my knitting lately has been mindless. It's the only thing I can knit while sitting at the baseball fields (which I feel like I do nearly every day!) I prepped for my group knitting lessons I'm teaching and I knitted a few more rows on my Stole shawl.
So, not much to report or show on the knitting front this week.

So I'll make up for it in cute animal and kid pics :)

Onto the kid and animal pics...
A sunshine filled day and some fun in the sand.

We chopped Garrett's hair. I love it. He's still mad at us. This photo was taken on the way to his 4th grade band concert. He did awesome. So proud of him. He has been playing the trumpet for less than a year and was able to stand up in front of everyone and play America the Beautiful with a few other of the select students. So proud!

This is my baby sister and her babies.

And look who's smiling :) Baby Grant, 6 weeks old and cute as can be.

Here is the little baby alpaca. He's waiting for his new friends to be born. Any day now!!!
Hair cuts tomorrow for the herd. Hope it doesn't rain all day!!!!

Happy knitting and reading (oh yeah...forgot about that. I need a book. Any suggestions?)

Yarn and Thread

Happy Wednesday!
Joining in with this week's yarn along. Sharing what I'm knitting and reading.
I'm also throwing in some of the needle/embroidery work I am doing
(as if I have nothing else to do!!!!)

I have made more progress on my Cameo Shawl.
I am reading The Cuckoo's Calling  by J.K. Rowling (although she published it under a man's name)

In between the knitting, I have started to embroider again. I love the patterns from this shop, Dropcloth, on etsy. I also took an online class through Creativebug. It's addictive!!!
This is the Paisley sampler. I'm going to make it a cover for a roll-up circular knitting needle carrying case.

This is another sampler (the one I made through the class)
I have been using it to cover my embroidery needle case, but have yet to sew it all together.

I have also been knitting some little hats for the farm store. Fall is almost here and it's time to get cracking!!!

And because alpacas are super cute...here are three of the boys.

Feeling very "fall" here today and wishing I could just knit all day....

Happy Knitting.

Yarn Along and A Birthday

Yarn Along....

It's almost done!!!!!!!!!! I have less than a 1/4 of the edging to do on my
Leaves of Grass and then it's done. Holy Moly.

I am knitting this as part of a KAL, but I'm behind. Most are done.
I doubted myself that I would have my "Done" post. But alas, I'm almost there.

Knitted in 100% baby alpaca yarn from our farm,
this knit will be a much loved shawl, blanket, what ever it may be.

And then there is a certain little someone in my house that isn't so little anymore.
Our guy, Garrett, is 9 years old today.

A handsome blonde kid that can make you laugh but listen closely...
the jokes are quick and quiet. A smart kid, a musician in the making,
a bit of an artist (although he may deny it), an athlete,
a wonderful big brother and little brother.
Our middle child :)

We love you GMan. Happy Birthday kiddo.

Need a Push Yarn Along

Happy Yarn Along Day!

I look forward to Wednesday for the simple reason of yarn alongs.
I love to see what others are working on and it's a nice way of
keeping track of what I'm doing.

But when you're knitting projects that seem to take forever, it's also frustrating.

These two projects are slow going.

And my speed knitting sister can manage to knit like a maniac and leave me in the dust!!!
Seriously, how do you do it??????????????

So, yes, it's the same things I've been working on for weeks, but I'll share.

I'm a part of a KAL for the Leave of Grass knit.
It's been fun, but I'm ready for it to be done.
The thing that will help me get it done is that I will be entering it in a competition at the spring alpaca show. I'm excited about that and I really needed the motivation!!!

It's a huge circular knit but on the needles, it's kind of lumpy and bumpy.
My kids thought I was making a ridiculously huge hat.

Clearly, I haven't made much progress on my sweater
This thing takes a lot of concentration....not much of that around here these days!!!

I am almost finished with The Art of Hearing Heartbeats. I love it so much. I hope it ends well. The last few books I have read haven't ended well...or at all in fact. Just left it open ended. I hate that.

I also have some new books from the library that I'm excited to read.

If only I had free time. sigh....

Happy Knitting :)
What are you working on and reading????
