Wednesday Yarn Along

Happy Wednesday!
I am joining in with Ginny for the Wednesday Yarn Along.

I was in a bit of a knitting slump for a month or so. Not by choice really, but because the baby is a crazy man and I can't take my eyes off of him. The pockets for Africa kicked me back into gear. I feel a bit "off" when I don't knit. I can never put my finger on what is wrong, and then I pick up some yarn and needles and I go....."ahhhhh....that's what was wrong". I need to knit. This I have learned.

So this week, I'm a knitting machine. I am cruising along on my summer Clapotis.
I started this last summer after my Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival trip. It was put to the side over and over and now I am determined to finish it before this weekend. I'm headed back to the festival and I will feel less guilty buying MORE yarn if I at least can finish this project first.

I went to the library the other day in search of some old Encyclopedia Brown books for my 8 year old son to read. My husband suggested that I get them for him because we struggle to find books he enjoys. Well, if you have a little boy and you haven't read these in a while, pick some up. They're great. Quick, simple, mysteries, very fun. While I was there, I came across this book. It's called, My Grandmother's Knitting. Have you heard of it? I hadn't and I LOVE it!!!!! The cute sweater on the cover caught my eye, so I brought it home. It's a great book! It has stories written by many knit designers about how they began to knit. Most are about their grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts, etc. I love old stories and the history of how people start doing things like quilting and knitting. I have always thought that a lot of who we are is in our blood. It's in our genes and we can't fight it. My maiden name is Sherman. Our family tree has us named as Shearman dating back to England days. I am a mush when I see a sheep. I can't explain it. I want to climb in the pen and cuddle up with a sheep. I always wonder if my ancestors were sheep shearers. I would love to find out some day.
In the back of the book is a pattern by each featured person. It's a really wonderful book and I'm going to put it on my birthday wish list. HINT HINT, kids.

Tonight is our Pre-Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival PowWow!
We are headed down in a few days to enjoy this great festival. We're getting together tonight with pizza, wine, patterns, game plans and yarn. Yes, we are dorks. And happy to be so.

Have a great day and happy knitting

Wea's New Friends and a TV Camera

 Wea has some new girlfriends!
My parents now have half ownership of Lilly. They bought her at the Harrisburg Show this past weekend. She will hang out here for a while until she goes for a breeding in RI.

The other two little girls are Hoopla and Bennie. They are here to hang out for a little while. They are owned by Emelise Farm. I love Bennie. She's so cute!!! She's the little white one. Hoopla is super cool too. Looks like a little Spicy!

 Now for the TV cameras....
Cablevision wanted to do a show on the alpaca farms in Wall.
Today was our big day. They stopped by, put a mic on my mom and started filming!

The alpacas were happy to smile for the camera. Star was so very curious about what was going on.

The herd came over and checked out the action.
My favorite girl, Geneva, looking pretty.

The show will be on next week and will run a few times a day for two weeks.

If there is a clip of it, we will post it on the website.

And in other news,
I can't seem to publish this post without acknowledging a sad event that happened here over the weekend. One of our first time moms delivered a premature stillborn baby. The shock of it all was so awful. We know that all farms encounter this sooner than later. But as my mom said, we wished it was later rather than sooner. The baby was beautiful. Looked just like her mommy. We are saddened by this event but we take comfort in knowing that it was nature's way of taking care of things. We always try to look at the good side of situations and take some good out of the bad. The good news is that the mom is doing well physically. The baby will be donated to the vet that runs the birthing clinics. This will allow people to learn first hand what to do when a birthing mom needs assistance. We wish so much that this baby was running around and playing in our field. But for now, we can just hope and pray that our babies-to-be are safe and will join us in due time.

Friday's Fences

My sister, Andee, is a wonderful photographer. She has a blog and over the past few months has found fun little things to be a part of. I noticed on her blog this morning, that she was joining in with a
"Friday's Fences" theme.

I have a few pictures that would go along with this, so I decided to join in on the fun today, Arrow Acres Style. So here goes...

 Have a great weekend!

Wednesday Yarn Along

There's a baby boy on the way :)

Lizzie and Nick have officially announced that they are expecting their first little baby.
HE is due to arrive in September.

That's right....ANOTHER boy in this family! That's a grand total of 6 grandsons for my parents.
Lots of little farm hands I say. I am so excited to meet this little baby...so it's time to knit!

I have this nice chunky green yarn that has been sitting in my basket. I haven't had a plan for it, so I think it needs to go to this new baby.

I'm still reading Sing You Home by Jodi Picoult. My mom insists that it gets better and to keep reading. Right now, it is sooooooo sad! But I will keep going because she recommended it to me. I am usually the one that recommends the books, so it's nice to be on the other side.

Don't forget to join in with Ginny on her Yarn Along Post. It's always fun to see what everyone else is knitting and reading!

The COOP will be closed today, but if you stop by, there will be a phone number posted on the door. Just call us and we'll come over and open up for you.

Happy Knitting-
Leanne

It's ALMOST HERE!!!!

Only 2 weeks away. Can you hear my heart beating faster?

I've been busy looking at patterns for the perfect yarn purchase at the festival.

What do you think?
Have any of you made this? It's called, Color Affection.
Three colors, should be the perfect place to find the perfect yarn.

Alpaca Pockets for Africa

Lori is a blogger that is headed to Africa. She is going to be visiting African villages to visit with the children. You can read her story on her blog. If you are new to Lori, get over there right now! She is wonderful. Love everything about her.

For her trip, she has reached out to others to knit little pockets that the children can have. She will pass them out during her visit next month. I have knitted up three pockets out of alpaca yarn. Inside contain a small felt ball handmade by my older boys. We thought this would be a fun little thing to play with.

My sister, Andee, has also knitted up a few and will be mailing them out tomorrow to Lori in California.

I've been in a bit of a knitter's rut lately. It was so much fun to sit down yesterday and make something that I know will go to little children all the way in Africa. I hope they enjoy them!

-Happy Knitting,
Leanne
