Making Mojo

I saw an embroidered hat on Pinterest a few weeks ago and showed my sister, Liz. I knew we HAD to make some!!! The next day she was shopping with my mom at a flower farm and there were a bunch of blank hats in the check out line! Random and perfect!!! She picked up a few and started creating.

Yesterday I took my lunch hour and made one myself. I loved making it and listed it on Etsy last night. It sold! Woohoo! I think I need to make more.....

It was super simple to make it. A blank hat, a needle and some embroidery thread. I split the strands of thread into 3 strands and I am happy with the weight. I think it showed up well. I started with 2 but it didn't show up well. I used a white dressmakers pencil to lightly draw my design before I embroidered. That's it! Easy, peasy!

Yarn Along

A quick little post to join in with this week's yarn along.

I am knitting this hat for a lesson I am teaching. Close Cable Hat by Anna & Heidi Pickles
Knitting it with chunky alpaca yarn. Warm cable heaven!

Just started A Spool of Blue Thread. Was very happy when the library called to let me know it was my turn with the book. So far it's great. Family stories all tied together.

I am still plugging along on my Olive Basket cardigan. It's slow going but I am really enjoying it.

I finished up my socks! I made the Rose City Roller Socks
I taught a sock class and this is the pattern we did. It was a nice little sock to teach the basics without all the knitting. My students did great! I added some pompoms to the backs.
They also look pretty cute with my slogger clogs. I'm so fancy.

That's it for today. We have had a house guest for a few days so I'm going to spend our last few hours with him. It's been wonderful to have him here. He is the son of my friend that is living in Germany for a few years and he came back home to spend some time with friends and family. A pleasure to have a nice, kind, thankful boy around!

Happy Knitting.

Yarn Along

Hello fellow knitters

So are your arms, shoulders, fingers, wrists aching too?
Why do we do this to ourselves?!!! Christmas knitting...always sounds like a good idea!
Well, to be honest, most of my knitting isn't for gifts.
A lot of it has been for our farm store, which in turn will become gifts to people I suppose.
It's been fun to see happy people buying up our handknits to gift to others.

Here's what I have been working on this week....

I have worked another skein of the baby blanket for my nephew-to-be.
Love this blanket and how quickly it is knitting up. Thank you Jared Flood for being a genius.

My one and only niece requested a gray slouch hat.
When we were together a few weeks ago she really liked my Spicy Rosebud hat, so I thought I would make her one. I am using gray baby alpaca yarn from our farmstore, held double for a bulkier hat.
I also like to knit the Rosebud hat in Stockinette opposed to the garter in the round. I just like the way it looks. I have made this hat so many times I should be able to do it without a pattern at this point!

Another Rosebud hat. This one is for the farm store. Knitted with dark brown baby alpaca.
I used a single strand for this one. Love how these hats come out. I need to block and then it's ready to make it's debut.

For reading, I started The Book Thief on my nook.
We're reading it for book club. It's been on my list for years now so it's nice to finally be getting to it.
Maybe we'll head out as a group when the movie comes out!

Hope you're all enjoying these last days before the Christmas blur!!!
Just a reminder to the local folks....
Our farm is OPEN this weekend,
Friday 10-4, Saturday 10-4 & Sunday 11-4
Last minute shopping time!!!!!

Happy Knitting!!!

Yarn Along

Happy Wednesday, folks.

Congrats to Ginny and her family on the birth of their new little (big!!!) baby boy!

Onto the yarn along for the week.....

More Hats!

I knitted up this fun slouch hat over the weekend.
Calling it my Saratoga Slouch
Knitted with Tosh Light in the colorway, Steven loves Tosh
My husband bought this yarn for me as a gift from my favorite yarn store in Saratoga, NY.
He picked it out all by himself. I was quite impressed.

I also knitted up a few new fair isle hats using alpaca yarn. They're for sale in our farm store!
This one is a toddler size little girl hat :) Having all boys, it's fun to knit girly things for the store.

This hat is adult large. Knitted up with white, gray and black baby alpaca yarn.

I finally have a good book to read!!!!!!!!
I chose The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton for next month.
It had a little bit of a slow start, but now I don't want to put it down.
You know the kind of book that you want to keep reading, think about it while you are not reading it and can't wait to tell others to read it too??? Yup...it's that kind. (I'm a dork and love a good book)

I also knitted a few more rows of my Guernsey Wrap.
Getting there!!!

In other news, our farm will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday starting this weekend (November 8th) Hours: 10-4. Come by!!!!!!!! We have so many new beautiful things for sale.

And one more thing...
Wade is in the Next Gerber Baby Contest!
Will you take a moment to vote for him?
You can vote once a day :)

 Seriously....how cute is this boy!!!

Happy Knitting and see you soon!

Fair-ly Obsessed

I have always like fair-isle. The way it looks...the fun of using different colors...the freedom to change a design every few rows...what ever you're in the mood for...and the "classic" look that it has.

After meeting Mary Jane Mucklestone at Rhinebeck, my obsession grew.
I am on a roll....can't be stopped!

Here are the latest creations of my needles.

I used a blend of handspun yarn by my mom (the dark blue), alpaca yarn, wool,
some left over Shelter yarn, some Spud and Chloe...all good stash busters.

Garrett and Chase helped me out with the modeling :)

Most of the patterns are from this book by Mary Jane Mucklestone.
200 Fair Isle Motifs: A Knitter's Directory

Mostly, I just do what ever I am feeling at the time.

But sometimes I use a larger pattern like this hat...
The dark blue is handspun by my mom. The pink is a left over wool in the stash and the light blue is from our alpaca, Tsunami blended with blue merino.
This hat is a toddler size.

All of the hats are on sale at the farm store.

On to more knitting!!!!

Joining in with Ginny and the yarn along folks :)
Also wishing Ginny good luck with the new baby that should be arriving soon!

Happy Knitting.

Lollipops

I made this hat last night for my nephew Lucas. My son Shea and Lucas are about the same size, so this morning I asked Shea to try on the hat to see if it is the right size. He absolutely refused. So when I told him if he tried on the hat I'd give him a lollipop, my other son Brady came running over and put the hat on Shea. They both posed for pictures wearing the hat and yes they both got lollipops. Sadly the hat was too small, but I made a new one this morning. Lucas' birthday is tomorrow and hopefully the second one will fit.

Brady showed off the back of the hat.
