Rug Hooking!

Because we don't have enough crafty hobbies in our lives.....

We learned how to rug hook last night with our fiber guild. I've been wanting to do this for years so I was very excited to finally learn. I loved it.

We were making Christmas ornaments. Any design that we wanted. The woman running the meeting provided the linen and wool. We just had to draw our design and bring a hoop and hook.

I LOVED it!!!!! Here are a few pictures of what we did. I made a Santa.

Next step is to cut them out, add a fabric backing and ribbon and hang on our trees!

Thank you to Debbie for leading us last night. I can't wait to make some more.

For anyone interested in the fiber guild, you can find out more on Shore Fiber Arts Guild website.

I Made a Dress!

You guys! I made a dress!!

After Rhinebeck I got the sewing bug after seeing so many Fen dresses around.
Love the different variations made with fabric choices, dresses, short sleeves, long sleeves, tops, etc.

Here's an example of all the variations you can make: (taken from Fancy Tiger Crafts website)

I used to sew a lot but everything was a straight line....bags, blankets, quilts. Occasionally I would sew a halloween costume for my kids, but nothing for myself.

So I downloaded the Fen pattern from Fancy Tiger Crafts, took a trip to JoAnn Fabric, bought myself some houndstooth wool flannel and spent a few hours on Saturday night cutting and sewing.
I had my music going, some wine poured and I was a happy little crafter!

I purchased the pdf version and printed and tiled it. Tricky to do. But Chase was a good helper and looked for the right lines to cut.

I got to use my new pin holder from Brooklyn Haberdashery that I bought in Rhinebeck.

A few hours of cutting and sewing and I had a dress!

Chase took these pics with my cell phone this morning....so I still look sleepy!
Can't wait to make some more in different fabrics. I see lots of Fens in my future.

What I'm Knitting

A few weeks ago I posted an inspirational posts with knitting ideas. You can read more of that here. One of the ideas was the Autumn Leaves.  I bought the pattern and I've been knitting some up.
Using left over balls of yarn, they are the perfect quick and easy knit.
I have them hanging up on my fireplace for now. As I knit more, I'll make a garland that can be used every year.

I have also been knitting away on my Zweig sweater. I am loving this knit. I have quickly become a Caitlin Hunter fan. I loved knitting her Sunset Highway and this sweater is proving to be the same for me. I'm using o-wool fingering in the Meadow Violet for the main color and the lace section is from Dancing Leaf Farm that I purchased at Rhinebeck. I wasn't sure about knitting the cable X pattern in the body. I don't like using a cable needle. It slows me down and I don't like the interruption in my knitting. But, the pattern has a link to a video that shows how to cable without a needle and I'm doing that. IT's easy peasy! So yes, my Zweig will have the X pattern.

I have also been knitting a few things for the farm. I'll have to take pictures of them!
Some cute little hats. Next up are Christmas gifts. I better get cracking!

Have a wonderful weekend and happy knitting!

Hi Sammy the Sheep

Lucky me, I have a crafty friend that has a crafty husband that owns a 3D printer and made all the Rhinebeck roomies some sheep. You probably spotted him in many of my Rhinebeck photos.

I named mine Sammy. I wanted all of my boys to be named Sam, but I didn't win that one.

Sammy the sheep was floating around my tote bag and lost his ears :( but he's still cute. And now he sits above me at my work desk. He reminds me of our awesome weekend and how happy I am to have a friend like Paige.

Swing by Paige's store for some awesome yarn, fabric and custom frames!
